Born on 21st of July 1957 in Grudziądz; secondary school finished in Bydgoszcz.
1976-1981 studied at the Warsaw University, M.A. degree in 1981: Star-footed brooches and their derivates from the south-eastern zone of the Baltic Sea as an element of European stamp ornamentation (under the guidance of prof. Jerzy Okulicz-Kozaryn).
1999 defended Ph.D. dissertation at Warsaw University: From Samland to Rogaland. East-West connections in the Baltic basin during Early Migration Period (under the guidance of prof. Wojciech Nowakowski).
Since 1981 employed at State Archaeological in Warsaw, since 2003 as Diploma Curator (with certificate from Ministry of Culture and National Heritage).
Since 1998 head of Balt Archaeology Department.
In 1997-2001 teaching in the Institute of Archaeology Warsaw University.
Since 2010 member of the Committee on the Study of Amber, International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences.
Field of research:
Roman and Migration Periods in Barbarian Europe, especially position of the Balts and their relations with the neighbours as well as far-flung connections of the Balts’ tribes.
Projects:
– since 1997 in Project Monumenta Archaeologica Barbarica as author of one volume (Netta) and editor of two others (Nadkole & Weklice). Project concerning publication of main Roman and Migration Periods cemeteries in Poland.
– since 2000 organizing the Baltic Seminar in State Archaeological (with prof. Jerzy Okulicz-Kozary and dr Wojciech Wróblewski, both Warsaw University). Each year there are 8 meetings.
– since 2001 member of Kommission zur Erforschung von Archäologischer Funde und Unterlagen aus dem nordöstlichen Mitteleuropa (KAFU), established in Berlin (as one of the participants-founders). Within the framework of KAFU: Anduln Project concerning the monograph of Lithuanian cemetery at Anduln/Egliškiai-Anduliai (with dr Audronė Bliujienė from Klaipėda University and dr Wojciech Wróblewski from Warsaw University.
– in 2003 organizer of international conference “Bogaczewo Culture 20 years later”, in Warsaw.
– since 2004 leading Project Szurpiły concerning monograph of long-term settlement complex (with prof. Jerzy Okulicz-Kozaryn from Warsaw University, Marcin Engel and Cezary Sobczak, both from State Archaeological Museum, Ludwika Sawicka from Warsaw University.
– in 2004 co-organizer (together with dr Mindaugas Bertašius, Kaunas Technical School) of international conference “Transformatio mundi The transition from late Migration Period to Early Viking Age”, in Kaunas.
– 2005-2008 co-leader of the Project Network Denmark-Poland (with prof. Ulla Lund Hansen from University in Copenhagen) “Archaeology and heritage culture. Contacts across the Baltic Sea during the Iron Age”.
– since 2008 in Project Ostbalticum (with dr Tomasz Nowakiewicz from Warsaw University and dr Aleksandra Rzeszotarska-Nowakiewicz from Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, Polish Academy of Science). Project concerning publication of archive sources from the Baltic Sea basin.
Exhibitions:
Co-author (with Grażyna Iwanowska & Andrzej Piotrowski) of the exhibition: The Prussians. The history and culture of Balt tribe (presented within 1997-2001).
Organizer in Poland of 3 Lithuanian exhibitions: The antiquities of Lithuania/Starożytności Litwy (1994), Kernavė – the Lithuanian Troya/Kernavė – litewska Troja (2002-2003), Art of the Balts/Sztuka Bałtów (2010) and 1 Latvian exhibition: Latvian treasures/Skarby starożytnej Łotwy (2007).

Conducting excavations in north-eastern Poland, among others: settlements at Kazimierówka and Straduny, cemeteries at Ławki and Paprotki Kolonia, site 1. Survey projects in Biskupiec region, in Ełk region and in River basin.
